Flogging Molly 5/23/17

Last Tuesday I finally had a chance to see Flogging Molly. Flogging Molly was playing two night at the New York City venue Irving Plaza. I got tickets for the first night. The problem was I called in for a meeting at 7 pm which I thought I was not going to make it. I miss Flogging Molly play all of the time and once again I thought I will never see this band.  Well, I got out around 8:30 and drove the fastest I can to the city. I made it by two minutes before their set started. Unfortunately, I miss the two openers.

Flogging Molly took the stage. They are a Celtic-Punk band from Los Angeles. They opened up their set with “Selfish Man.” The crowd went off. I was thinking prior to the show how Flogging Molly crowds get. I figure it somewhat like Dropkick Murphys. People moshing to Punk/Celtic/Folk music and a lot of drinking in the crowd. People were moshing and there was a lot drinking. It seemed that everyone was having a good time and being happy. Dave King who is the lead singer of the band was hilarious on stage. Honeslty this guy is an underrated frontman. Just having a lot of fun with the crowd. They played “Drunken Lullabies” which probably had the best reaction of the night. This is their most known song. This set felt like I was at a Dropkick Murphys show. Just people drinking and having a good time. The music is catchy and just a lot of fun. Flogging Molly played nineteen songs and all had a good reaction from the crowd. They could have played a lot more. They played some songs I always wanted to hear which was “Life in a Tenement Square” and “What’s Left of The Flag.” This was my first time seeing them play and Flogging Molly was fanstic. If you like Celtic-Punk like The Pogues you will like this band. Flogging Molly has been around for twenty years and they rocked the house. When they come back around again I will probably see them again. They were a lot of fun. I am glad that once I got out of that meeting I took a chance and at the end I pulled it off.
